Although the US Department of Labor identifies careers in aging as a growth sector, the SOPHE Healthy Aging COP members have observed a low rate of engagement in the SOPHE member community around aging topics and events. This webinar is designed to introduce the benefits and opportunities available to SOPHE members and other health educators who may be considering careers working with the over 50 population. Each speaker will describe the education and career path taken to achieve employment in their areas as well as describe their personal experience regarding job opportunities, benefits and preparation needed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Distinguish unique health educators’ career paths, benefits and opportunities of working with the aging population through the integration of health promotion and education among  Healthy Aging programs.   

Speakers:

Sarah Lovegreen MPH, CHES is the National Health Director for the OASIS Institute. Ms. Lovegreen has 15 years of experience implementing and managing grant-funded, community-based obesity and chronic disease prevention programs. At OASIS, Ms. Lovegreen leads the planning, implementation and evaluation of all health related programs and grants in the OASIS network. Current initiatives focus on diabetes self-management, social isolation, obesity prevention and connecting healthcare to community-based programs for reduced hospitalizations. Ms. Lovegreen is an active Master Trainer in the Stanford Chronic Disease and Diabetes Self-Management Programs and she recently became one of 9 Lead Trainers for A Matter of Balance. She obtained her Master’s in Public Health from Saint Louis University and is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist.

Jill Jenken MPH, CHES has a bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion and Masters of Public Health degree.  She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist.  Jill has done health education work in the university, healthcare, and worksite employee wellness setting, with most experience in community wellness programs.  She currently works within Wisconsin’s Aging Network to assist statewide implementation of Evidence-Based Healthy Aging Programs.  Jill is the Community Research Associate for the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging, where she builds partnerships among community and academic agencies to conduct healthy aging research, ultimately resulting in the development of new evidence-based programs that impact the health of communities. ne of 9 Lead Trainers for A Matter of Balance. She obtained her Master’s in Public Health from Saint Louis University and is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist.

Matt Estrade MBA has added a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from University of Louisiana in Monroe and is now working on his Masters in Gerontology.  Matt served as Grants Officer to the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Elderly Affairs for 2.5 years. He then moved into the role as Grants Development Supervisor for Ochsner Health Systems based in New Orleans, LA.  Matt has also developed his own organization “Care Partner Mentoring” and is currently active writing a dementia care blog, facilitating a dementia caregiver support group, and training Council on Aging staff teams.
