Length: 1 hour

As an Advisory body to the President of the United States, the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues (Bioethics Commission) considers ethical issues with particular focus on U.S. perspectives and policies. However, the 2014-2015 Ebola virus disease (EVD) epidemic in western Africa once again reminded us that public health, and public health ethics, is global.
In this first of three webinars on "Public Health Bioethics", the Bioethics Commission staff will focus on ethical and prudential reasons for U.S. engagement in the global response to public health emergencies, including the 2014-2015 EVD epidemic, and discuss the Bioethics Communication's recommendations about public health emergency preparedness, public health interventions that restrict liberty, such as quarantine, and research in public health emergencies.
