Length: 1 hour

Children have unique needs that make them vulnerable in disasters, and still there are outstanding gaps in state, institutional and family emergency plans that put them at risk. However, research shows that families of children who bring home preparedness materials are 75% more likely to have a plan meaning that children can truly be change agents in building resilient communities and a ready nation. This session will take a look at children’s needs in emergencies, gaps that exist in perceptions and protection, and tools and resources for engaging children and families in emergency preparedness. It will include an overview of Save the Children’s Prep Rally program and resources for children grades K-5, using developmentally appropriate discussions, games and activities to help children get ready to weather any storm that may come their way.
